What is a Silent Disco?

Silent discos have been around for a while and are a great option for some added entertainment at your event, especially if you need to maintain ‘noise discipline’. Whether it’s a large scale event like ‘Silent Raves at The Shard’ or a private party at home, ST Events have all the equipment and expertise ready to get you started.

I’m sure there’s been a time in the past when you’ve been on the dancefloor, having the time of your life and the DJ has mixed into your least favourite song ever. It’s too loud to speak properly so you make the hand/head signal to your friend that means you’re going to the bar for a drink. If only you could switch the music yourself.

Introducing… Silent Discos

They first came about around 30 years ago when outdoor festivals and events wanted to reduce noise pollution. Rather than loud, late night DJs and sound systems, organisers would simply transmit the music to wireless headphones for every guest. Since then, silent disco events have been a popular entertainment option at weddings, bat/bar mitzvahs, birthdays and late night house parties.

Headphones are issued at the door and you can then choose from 3 channels of music, playing simultaneously on a closed radio frequency. You can switch between each channel using a small button on the earpiece. As you change the music channel, the colour of the headphones changes too; so you can look around to see who else is listening to the same channel, then give them a thumbs up for their great taste in music.

It can be quite a strange experience when you take off your headphones, a quiet room filled with awful renditions of your favourite sing-a-longs. But hilarious too! You’ll soon find out who’s had singing lessons.

The best thing about silent discos is the choice of music, with 3 channels to choose from you can switch back and forth as much as you like. At some of our silent disco parties, the DJs at ST Events often take control of two channels and leave one channel available for a budding DJ in the crowd to have a go at selecting the music. Have you got great taste in music? Can you keep people on the dancefloor?

ST Events is able to deliver, setup and operate silent discos at your home or party venue so you can get involved in the fun. Packages available with or without a DJ. Get in touch now via our contact page to find out more.
